Welcome

Hello everyone, and happy Wednesday. I am not too sure where our summer has got to today, but a perfect day to be writing a blog.

I wanted to share my thoughts with you on the programme that was on Channel 4 the other evening, Wasting Away, The Truth about Anorexia, with Mark Austin and his daughter Maddy.

Firstly, I would like to say how well, grounded and lovely Maddy came across in the programme. It was such a courageous and strong venture for both Mark and Maddy to publicly re-live their emotional journey, however, it was clear how supportive Mark and Maddy’s family were to her in the depths of her eating disorder.

Mark and Maddy interview the secretary of state for health Jeremy Hunt. Asking “Why is treatment such a lottery.”. Having witnessed first-hand the lack of support for sufferers and carers alike, I could really resonate with this question, why do some get help and others not? Treatment, at the end of the day, is as matter of life.

The lack of resources that the mental health system seems to be able to provide, even 10 years down the line from when my family were in it (nothing has changed) is so sad and infuriating to see. I really hope that in the future we can be looking at a more accepting and supportive system…how long in the future that will happen, is beyond me.

I would love to know your thoughts.
